The Centre for Liveable Cities is launching the Leaders in Urban Governance Programme (LUGP), which offers a leadership development platform for promising public officers. Participants will gain insights and a better understanding of policy issues and decisions in the area of liveability and sustainable development of cities and the strategies going forward.

A Milestone Programme
The 6-day programme is an inter-agency effort and taps on the collective wisdom of leaders for an appreciation of the challenges in city development. The course aims to cultivate a Whole-of-Government perspective towards urban development and environmental management.

A Unique Approach

Over the past 4 decades, Singapore’s public agencies and statutory boards have accumulated a wealth of expertise, experience and knowledge in urban development and management. The collective efforts facilitated the transformation of Singapore into a global and liveable city today. The success hinged upon agencies’ integrated and long-term approach to planning and implementation, underpinned by good urban governance.

The Programme distills principles of urban governance that guided policy-makers and key urban development agencies will share their experiences and lessons learnt. In the process, participants will grasp the intricacies of policy dilemmas, delve into the considerations and trade-offs that impacted policy decisions.

Learning includes site visits, vibrant discussions and debates. Participants will also engage in dialogue sessions with Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, leaders of public agencies and industry captains.

The inaugural LUGP is open to the Heads of Departments and Deputy Directors of Singapore Ministries and Agencies involved in urban development and environmental management. Future runs of the Programme will be opened to other Ministries and Agencies, both local and foreign.
